Summary: A fifth-year surgical resident who only has time for her new career…
A talented heart surgeon who’s just returned from Doctors Without Borders and wants to make time for romance…
A relationship that can’t possibly get off the ground…or can it?
Quinn Ross has only a couple of months left of her residency in Houston before she takes her boards and joins a prestigious heart surgeon in Dallas. When she gets a serious case of pneumonia and becomes a patient herself, she meets Dr. Roman Burke.
Roman found his love in Doctors Without Borders and made a career out of helping those less fortunate, especially small children in places like Haiti. Roman hid his heart under a magnificent tattoo for a very private reason and when Quinn thinks she’s found the reason…she’s misled and very wrong, making a wild move which leaves her feelings and her heart locked away.
Can they find they find their way back to each other?
Flirty Review: Three Lip Bites
I gave this three stars because I see a story here, one that needs a lot of work, but one that could be very good. I'm assuming this is a short or novella from the length, but in the parameters of these types of books, development can happen that doesn't make the reader feel like the author is snapping her fingers to move along the next scene. That's how I felt reading: The scenes and time progression went so fast, I didn't have time to really feel for the characters or for the situation.
Snap! Quinn and Roman go on a date. Snap! They are in love. Snap! They break up. Snap! It's three years later. Snap! They are in love again.
The entire time Roman and Quinn are together in the first part of the book is a week before she sees some very flimsy evidence he may or may have not lied to her and she bolts. Very cliche, I might add. She, of course, blocks him out and doesn't let him explain his side of the story. Which I really, really am bored reading. It's been done so much and it's a lazy plot device to move the story along. Ugh! Anyhoo...
So Roman is out of the picture and Quinn is just surviving, I guess. She starts dating a new man who sexually abuses her. It's graphic enough of a sex scene where her boyfriend is out of control, but doesn't technically rape her, but almost does, but doesn't, that made me put the book down for a moment and wonder is there was a warning attached to this book. I don't remember any, but it's not to say I missed it somewhere. The whole scene, the boyfriend, didn't really even fit into the story. There is no recourse later in Quinn's well-being or anything. So I wasn't really sure what the whole reason for it was. It felt like filler until she met up with Roman again.
And when Quinn and Roman do meet up again, it is so rushed and unbelievable. They get engaged right off the bat and there is no build up of their relationship again. No depth of what Roman went through while they were apart, no real connection as to why he doesn't hate her for leaving him high and dry. No real conclusion for scar on his chest, just his simple explanation and Quinn is like "okay, moving on". It just makes zero sense.
Then BOOM, she's pregnant.
And I'm done.
I really wanted this book to be more than what it was. It has the bones, it just needs more flesh. A good content edit is needed for this book. Would I recommend this? As it stands, no. If it was developed more, heck yes.
About The Author
The hubs and I enjoy having friends over and our place is kind of a hangout...of sorts. We cook and entertain together.
I want my stories to excite the reader. I love it when readers reach out to me.
2014 has started off with my stories of HOOK-UPS with Ace's Key, Booty Call, Christmas In July and Consolation Prize. I put the four of them in a collection, you'll find it under All About The Heat.
This new standalone THEMED SERIES is a new concept to me. While all the stories will be of different characters or events, they can be read in any order. Good thing, because I have over 30 titles planned for this KISS ME Themed series. Each novella will be sure to deliver snarky or wild and zany or erotic twist to romance and perhaps a combo of all of it. First up is KISS ME-THERE, Guaranteed to get the temperature up, if you know what I mean.
Followed by KISS ME-THE LOVE SHACK, KISS ME-IN THE RAIN, KISS ME-CRAZY, KISS ME-FOREVER and more.
In January 2015, you will see my story, The Secrets Of The Sequins featured in a limited edition box set, Midnight Masquerade about a special place and time in New Orleans on Fat Tuesday. It's a hot romp, so keep a look out.
Stay tuned, FALL 2014 is going to be full of love in all the right places.
