I never really knew what misery was until the day I was kidnapped and sold for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Two months later, I'm at a brothel in Rio when I meet Daniel Hays. He says he's here to save me, but can I trust him? All I know of him are his sarcastic retorts and his tendency to solve every dispute with his gun. He's also the only safe thing in my world, and I know it's wrong to fall in love with him, but I can't seem to help myself. He says he’ll protect me until his last breath but I don’t know if I should believe him or even if I can.
For the last eighteen months, I’ve had one goal: to find my kidnapped sister. I’ve left the Army, turned paid hit man, and have befriended criminals all across the globe. In every brothel I raid or every human trafficking truck I stop, her face is the one I’m desperate to see. In Rio, I find Regan Porter, bruised but not broken and still sane despite her weeks in hell. I should leave her behind or send her home because the last thing either of us needs is to get involved. But with every passing minute, I find I can’t let her go.
Flirty Review: Four Lip Bites
Last Breath picks up where Last Hit last left us. This time around we are following the story of hitman Daniel Hays and Regan Porter. Both characters from Last Hit. Daniel was a fellow hitman with Nik and Regan was Daisy's roommate and best friend who was kidnapped by the bad guys in book one and not heard from until book two.
Daniel is an American with a sense of humor. While Nikolai was Ukrainian and very stiff at times, Daniel is very playful in his narrative and very blunt. I liked him very much off the bat. I thought that Clare and Frederick really got into the head of these hitman very well. They both don't really want to be hitman and really want to get out, but they both have a certain purpose which I won't give away if you haven't read the books.
Daisy in book one was very innocent where Regan in this book is not. She was kidnapped in book one by the Bratva and sold (human trafficking). Her story picks up in Rio where she's being kept hostage by pimp. For a character who had been servery sexually victimized, she's really stable. In fact she's downright sassy in her narrative. I don't know if I could understand her behavior or if it was very believable given the way things happened to her. But it did she her strong will to live and I could get behind that.
When Daniel comes upon her, you do see more desperation in her narrative which helped her characterization better. Quickly, Daniel realized that Regan isn't going to let him go soon. She's scared that if she's returned to the Consulate that she would be put right back into the enemy's hands. I really liked seeing her vulnerability with Danial after her shell started to crack.
As usual, Clare and Frederick had more interesting storylines with Vasily and Daniel's sister, who was also kidnapped. Book three is going to be there book and I'm really looking forward to it.
Last Breath is a very intense book with a good mix of sex, action, and well researched storylines. I would recommend it to anyone needing a sexy thrill ride.
About The Authors:
After devouring hundreds of paperback romances, mythology books, and archaeological tomes, she decided to write a few books of her own - stories with a wild adventure, sharp banter, and lots of super-sexy situations. She prefers her heroes alpha and half-dressed, her heroines witty, and she loves nothing more than watching them overcome adversity to fall into bed together.
Jen is currently working on a contemporary romance duology to be published in summer 2014 with the next Hitman book in the fall and the fourth Woodlands novel in late fall.
