Summary: I lie to survive.
Have since I was sixteen and my world fell into chaos. But I found a way to endure, or rather it found me. Now I’m a prisoner of my own doing, hiding behind a false mask so no one sees the truth. Not even the man I want but can’t have—Deck. But I messed up and the lies are spilling over, out of control.
Deck is unrelenting and will settle for nothing less than the truth. He demands everything from me--EVERYTHING—even if it rips me apart.
I kill for a living.
Unyielding—It’s how I survive in my line of work. I bend people to my will…except Georgie.
But that ends now.
I've played her game for far too long. Now I think it's time we play mine.
Flirty Review: Three Lip Bites
Anyhoo, we follow the story of the main female protag Georgie. She has had a troubled life. Her brother was killed overseas in the war, her parents are distant, and she has had some dramatic experiences with abuse in high school. But Deck, her brother's best friend and war buddy and contracted killer, came back to look after her. He's all hard and closed in. He keeps her at arm's length even though they have a very heavy attraction to one another. Deck is honoring her brother, Connor's, wishes. Stay away from Georgie.
But Georgie is hiding a sordid side of her from Deck. A side that reveals so much and all too much. She needs his help more than ever but it's the help that finally brings Deck to his knees and he gives into temptation. BOOM! Sexy times!
The arc of the story is well-paced and I liked the introduction of the Kai character as the antagonist. I foresee more depth from his character in books to come. I also like Deck's other coworkers (contracted killers). But what I would have loved to see was more focus on Deck and his band of brothers. Unyielding Riot the company that Deck headed up was essentially a hitman business or that's how it sounded. But we never saw Deck or any of the others do anything. Deck was traveling but that's it. Even in his POVs. I would have loved to see more of his hard life to feel for him more. A good chunk of the book was dedicated to sexy times with Georgie and Deck and the focus of the arc was kinda on the backburner.
So I felt like this book was missing something. I'm still interested to see what happens in book two and will be reading it for sure when it comes out.
