Summary: Fourteen months. For fourteen months, Puck Redhouse sat in a cell and kept his mouth shut, protecting the Silver Bastards MC from their enemies. Then he was free and it was time for his reward—full membership in the club, along with a party to celebrate. That’s when he saw Becca Jones for the first time and set everything in motion. Before the night ended he’d violated his parole and stolen her away from everything she knew.
Five years. It was five years ago that Puck destroyed Becca and saved her all in one night. She’s been terrified of him ever since, but she’s even more terrified of the monsters he still protects her from... But Becca refuses to let fear control her. She’s living her life and moving forward, until she gets a phone call from the past she can't ignore. She has to go back, and there’s only one man she can trust to go with her—the ex-con biker who rescued her once before.
Puck will help her again, but this time it’ll be on his terms. No more lies, no more tears, and no more holding back what he really wants...
Flirty Review: Four Lip Bites
When I saw Silver Bastard was getting ready to come out, and I could possibly get an ARC, I flipped!! Wylde was expanding her MC universe, and I couldn't have been more excited.
We met Puck in her Reapers series. He had been in jail with Painter. What I remember from the brief glimpse of Puck was that he was a hard man with a lot going on. Very intriguing! We start this book with a brief flashback of how Puck and Becca met, and it's not a very romantic meeting. But we see a softness with Puck when he was with Becca. If only just a touch, but it's there. Unfortunately, things don't turn out well for their first meeting, and Puck has to take her away from the only home she's known for her safety. His level of involvement isn't what he wanted to have since he just gotten out of jail, but he's committed now to protect her.
Fast forward some years, Becca is grown up and living on her own. She's always been wary of Puck's presence in her life but accepts it as well. She knows that he saved her from her crazy life with her mom and stepdad. (Her stepdad used to whore her out). She had a second chance in life. Now that she's on her own, she's unnerved that Puck has suddenly popped back up as her neighbor.
But when her stepdad rears his ugly head again, and her mom is pressuring her to save her from her abusive husband, Becca has nowhere else to turn for help but Puck. But it comes at a cost: her heart and her body.
So good! The grit and realness, the hard life aspect of Wylde's book is what draws me back time and again. Silver Bastard delivers, for sure. The reason for only four lip bites and not five? I can't really put my finger on it. There was something I took away from the Reapers books that I didn't with this one. Maybe I didn't feel as connected with Becca as I wanted. I did think she was giving into her mother way more than she should have. She hadn't seen her in five years, but yet she was going to drop everything for a woman who let her husband whore her daughter out? I would have been a little more angry at my mother than Becca seemed to be. But it's a tough situation. I get it.
Anyhoo, who loves a great MC? You do? Great! Read this new series Silver Bastard by Joanna Wylde, trust me, it's not going to disappoint.
