Flirty Review: Five Lip Bites
So let's talk the story. Blaire is an opportunist. A gold-digger. A woman with a past filled with very poor self-esteem who quickly finds out from a young age that her body is her best asset. She really knows no other way to survive but to live off what her body can give her. She's lost a lot of sense of reality and it in turn has hardened her to what could truly make her happy. Love, relationships, trust...all of it is not in her lexicon. Never has been. She's rough but beautiful. And really, she's a very sad person even if she can't admit it. Temptation is very strong for her. She's tempted and she tempts. Men are her weakness and men with money are her livelihood. This is the essence of a true gold-digger. Her world is, of course, thrown when she meets Ronan. A man who doesn't have much but is happy to make her happy. He loves her unconditionally. He knows what he is getting into but he's confident he can show her what true loves means. The only problem is that Blaire can't see it or better yet, can't admit she wants it.
Enter Lawrence. He's what I viewed as the serpent in the garden. For a large part, he's not the focus in book one. He's the tempter of Blaire and the perfect antagonist. He's everything she's wants. The ultimate man she can set herself up with for a lifetime if she plays the part right. He's not looking for love, he's looking for a kept woman he can use. Lawrence is richer than God and knows it, uses it. He knows the score with Blaire and uses it against her, knowing she would never deny him. It costs her the happiness she found with Ronan.
But the twist at the end of the book.... WOW. I want to say I saw it coming. Well, I think I did. I had a feeling, but it still made me clutch my pearls when I read it. Asher created what I love in a book: the want. I want so much more and I can't wait to read the next installment. It's pretty much killing me at this moment. There is so much good about this book that I can't even go on with telling you how much you need to read it. So I'll just say: GO READ IT!
