Summary:
He’s utterly alone…
Tortured and existing in a dark spiral of despair, bestselling British author, Gavin Cooke, has come to the Outer Banks of North Carolina to escape the seedy lifestyle he had been living in London and in a desperate attempt to regain his writing focus. He’s twisted, bitter and angry at the world. He’s a loner… needing not a single thing other than his Scotch and a laptop upon which he can bang out his next erotic, dark thriller.
She’s running in place and getting nowhere…
Savannah Shepherd’s life is falling apart. Her dream of being a wildlife photographer seems a distant memory and she’s barely able to make ends meet. Driving herself forward with no clear goals apparent, she’s about ready to pack up her bags and head home with her tail between her legs.
Two unlikely lovers…
He’s raw, forceful and a dirty talker. She’s a flowers and romance type of girl. Yet within each other, they find a mutual craving that can only be satisfied by giving in to their desires for one another.
Lust turns into something more… something they were not looking for but tentatively accept. Will it be enough to push them past the obstacles of Gavin’s bitter past?
*SUGAR ON THE EDGE can be read as a stand-alone*
Flirty Review: FOUR LIP BITES
Savannah Shepard isn't having a good time of it. She just lost her full-time job and has to work several jobs to make ends meet. She takes a house cleaning job with a reclusive author Gavin Cooke. There of course is an instant attraction between the pair. Savannah sees Gavin as water in the desert in a way, and Gavin sees Savannah as a challenge he's been looking for a cure-all for his writer's block.
Things get hot and heavy very fast for the two and the book certainly picks up pace when the love affair turns very heated and emotional. Gavin has been avoiding love and intimacy at all cost since the tragic death of his son, and Savannah falls hard fast.
Gavin is a great mix of perfect asshole/sexy beast while Savannah embodies the sweet and innocent while still showing her backbone that constantly surprises Gavin. They challenge each other and it makes for a good push and pull between the characters. I really enjoyed reading that part of their relationship. It's hot and sexy and very interesting to read. The pace is well done and the struggle with the characters (without giving anything away) is valid. I felt that Sugar on the Edge is an entertaining book and deserves a read. If you're wanting something smart, sexy, and intriguing, this book is for you.
But all books do have their flaws. One thing that constantly pulled me out of the book was the disembodied action. All the body parts doing things on their own just forced me want to roll my own eyes out the door. Some disembodied action is all right but it was in overabundance in this book. My suggest is for the author to cut down on it a lot. If it's pulling me out of the book, just think of how it could pull other readers.
